Exceptional High-end Toner Variety!1954 Franklin Half Dollar
PCGS: "Bugs Bunny" FS-401
Franklin Variety Index: "FVI Bugs Bunny A-2a"
PCGS MS64
The attribution is confirmed by the large horn clash between neck and date. The forked upper lip is still very obvious on the "A" stage of FVI Bugs Bunny A-2. A high-end "64" and nearly FBL (two tiny, mint-made, strike-through dents in the lower left quadrant prevent FBL on an otherwise fully defined example). The various Bugs Bunny die pairs of 1954 are seldom seen in die states with good definition on the clashing. Also, they are usually deep, mint set toners or blast white roll coins. They are not typically seen with nice rainbows. This is a special coin that will delight the specialist!
The Franklin Variety Index, a free variety guide to Franklin half dollars, is the result of a 10-year research initiative by DM Rare Coins. The guide is being released in stages, beginning in December of 2020. Coins attributed to the FVI will be accompanied by a certificate of attribution.
